My grandfather always decided he was a Christian. To him it meant to act in a manner that was kindly and gracious. He did not believe in god, but he did stop on the side of the road ...and fix cars of people who were stranded, he would hold doors open for people, he would volunteer often, overall his character was very much about being of service to the other. If he had simply told me to do these things I think I would be a very different person. I try my best to follow his example.
So, its been raining a lot here in Nova Scotia. Unfortunately... for some the rain has caused washouts and that sort of thing. I am sorry for those who have lost homes and land, and the damage that is caused to roads and bridges. I don't remember so much rain before, even though the maritimes are known to changeable in terms of weather. Either way, for most people around me this is just bad. I take a different point of view. Although, there has been a few days where I have felt hesitant to go out- I am mostly embracing of the rain. I find it another season, like winter you have to prepare. Good preparation means you don't get too wet. I also appreciate it because it is almost encouraging me to slow down. I need to gather my strength to go out and do work but if I'm encourages to stay inside and drink tea, I don't mindlessly go outside and buy something. Owen, my friend commented that he was impressed by the sheer persistence of the rain. I am as well, it comes across as a powerful function of nature. A valuable ecological function, a way to move sediment. I am sure there is endless reasons to appreciate rain, so lets do that. I don't think I will get many friends thinking this way though. haha, the sun is much more popular.
